The Robot

2015-2016 Res-Q robot G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All T.O.D.s {Tanks Of Destiny})

This is Goat. GOAT stands for Greatest of all TODS. Goat is our robot from the 2015-16 Res-Q season. Goat is very unique because of everything from the two-speed gearboxes to the tread pods with push-rod suspension. Goat is capable of scoring in any basket and hanging from the bar at the end of the match while triggering the climbers. Goat was designed in PTC Creo CAD entirely, before ordering any parts or starting on the build.

Learn about Cybots Tank Push-rod Suspension

This is a page all about our unique tank tread drivebase, with push-rod suspension. It is based off of the Lamborghini Aventador. The purpose of push-rod suspension is to make the shocks lay horizontally to take up less vertical space.
We hope this inspires you to design your own version of treadpod suspension. :)

Where to buy the parts?

We bought all of the treads and pulleys for the tread pods from brecoflex. www.brecoflex.com We found this site because it is a popular site where FRC teams get treads. We also heavily modified the pulleys to make them fit our deisgn. The rest of the custom parts to make these were machined by us out of aluminum bar stock using a 1960's mill and lathe. We custom machined every part of these tread pods except for the tread, the springs, and the shoulder bolts. The majority of our aluminum stock and other parts such as shoulder bolts and ball bearings came from McMaster-Carr.  www.mcmaster.com
A good example of push-rod suspension is in the Lamborghini Aventador.

2-Speed Gearboxes

Our 2-speed gearbox design is made with a custom machined box made of 4 plates and dog gear the can shift back and forth between a high gear and low gear. The dog gear, shifting assembly, and bearings are from Andymark and the regular hex shaft gears are from Vex. The servo mount, box plates, and hex shaft are machined from stock aluminum pieces. You can download our Bill Of Materials for the Gearbox below. If you have any additional questions about where the pieces came from, how we made the box, or how it works, please contact us with the form at the bottom of the page.
